How Some Companies Changed The Face Of Technology Industry

Technology has been at the forefront of the human development. Development in the field of computer science has revolutionized how we use technology. If you think about it we came up with the concept of personal computers just 3 decades back. It was Steve Jobs, late founder of Apple, who came up with the idea.

In the 1980s, IBM was the most powerful computer company in the world. IBM was completely dominating the technology industry with it’s range of mainframe systems. The mainframes were only used for military and research purposes in big educational institutions. Steve Jobs along with Steve Wozniak, conceptualized the Personal Computer with Apple 1 and Apple 2 in the late 1970s.

Following in the footsteps of Apple, IBM released it’s first line of Personal Computers, known as IBM-PC in 1981. In the mid 1980s, Apple released two lines of PCs – Lisa and Macintosh. Along with the hardware battle between Apple and IBM, there was another company in the making – Microsoft which was completely focused on software. Microsoft led by Bill Gates believed that software would be the key to do more with powerful hardware systems.

In 1985, Microsoft released the first version of Windows. Allegedly, most of the idea for the OS were taken from Apple’s own Mac OS. After getting fired from Apple, Steve Jobs built a new company NeXT which created computer systems. The company didn’t do well because the products were overpriced. In the mid 1990s, when Apple was performing badly, the company went for a deal with NeXT, to buy it out. At the same time, Microsoft released Windows 95. Microsoft was then the undisputed software maker in the tech industry.

After returning to Apple in 1997, Steve Jobs set out with a new vision for Apple. The company hasn’t looked back since then. With the release of new line of Mac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone and iPad, Apple left all others behind in innovation.

Another company that changed the face of Internet industry is Google. Founded by Stanford graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the company initially focused on building a user oriented search engine. Later they moved on to the advertising industry with Google Adwords and Adsense. They entered the mobile industry after acquiring Android in the mid 2000s. Google is now the leading search engine in the world with the billions of queries each day.

With so many innovations in the last 3 decades, the popularity for computer science has reached a new level. In a country like India, the demand for engineering has reached a new level. That’s why almost all the colleges and universities in India are now offering computer science courses.

One of the leading universities in India is the Delhi University. They have a lot of courses on engineering especially on computer science which includes Computer Engineering, Computer Technology & Applications and Information Technology.

So, if you’re interested in working in the computer industry, Delhi University is a viable choice. The university also has a great placement record. Almost all the major companies, including international tech giants come for campus for recruitment.
